Short Biography

Asal Kiazadeh holds a PhD in Electronics and Optoelectronics and is the leader of the Memristor Group at CENIMAT/i3N, Nova
University of Lisbon. She is an Assistant Professor and Researcher of Distinction at i3N/CENIMAT.
Her research focuses on investigating the electrical properties of a promising class of low-temperature flexible materials
based on amorphous oxides, 2D material applied to memristors and thin-film transistors at both the physical and device levels,
targeting Internet of Things (IoT) applications, both neuromorphic computation and RF communication.
She has a proven track record in research funding, having secured a total of five project grants as Principal Investigator
and leading member, funded by both national government agencies and the European Commission. These projects are all centered
around memristor technologies for use in cutting-edge communication applications—such as THz-operating non-volatile RF switches—and
computational domains, including neuromorphic vision and brain-inspired low-power neural network hardware.
She has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, with over 30 directly related to memristor technologies. Notably, 20
of these were published in the past five years alone. In most of her publications, she is either the first or corresponding
author. She is also the first author of a book chapter in the second edition of Advances in Non-Volatile Memory and Storage
Technology.
She has supervised more than 20 Master's students on thesis topics related to memristive devices and is currently supervising
several Master's students each year. She has also supervised seven FCT-funded PhD students and two additional PhD students
funded through research projects. She regularly gives two invited talks per year on resistive switching devices and their
applications in neuromorphic and RF domains.
Since 2016, she has been an active member of the organizing committee of the Advanced Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical
and Industrial Systems (DoCEIS).
In terms of international collaboration, she works closely with renowned institutions and researchers, including Dr. Gianluca
Milano (INRIM), Dr. Valeria Bragaglia (IBM), and Prof. Regina Dittmann (Forschungszentrum Jülich). She is also supervising
a joint PhD grant between Nova University Lisbon and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU).
In recognition of her expertise, she had the honor of serving as a jury member for the PhD defense of Dr. Carlos Rosario,
supervised by Prof. Rainer Waser at RWTH Aachen—one of the world’s leading scientists in oxide memristor technology.
