Short Biography

Ana Baptista is a Senior Researcher with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering since 2014. Her research is mainly focused
on the development of innovative smart textiles based on biocompatible polymers with multifunctional properties envisaging
their application in energy conversion and storage systems and medical devices. During the last years, she has published work
and supervised several master theses in the field of cellulose-based bio-batteries, glucose sensitive electrospun membranes,
electronic textiles and electrically controlled drug delivery systems.
Currently, she is the principal investigator of the project All-FIBRE that aims at the development of a fiber-shaped photovoltaic
storage devices able to harvest and store energy to supply electronic textiles while keeping wearable, lightweight and flexibility
characteristics.
Besides these topics of investigation, Ana has been participating in several national and international projects related with
energy generation systems, paper functionalization (with Navigator company) and 3D printing of ceramic-based medical implants
(with InnovNano company). Since 2015, she was responsible for the supervision of more than 20 master students and students
in Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program; and has been invited as an external member of the jury of several master
courses in the field of Materials Engineering, Micro and Nanotechnologies Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry.
In addition to her scientific activities, since 2011 Ana has been collaborating either in theoretical or laboratory classes
from several courses such as Technology of Nanomaterials, Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies, Materials for Energy Conversion
and Conservation, Biomaterials, and Surfaces and Interfaces.
